Introducing One Size Fits None - A Podcast for HR Leaders

Most HR advice is outdated.

My progression into people leadership happened fast. At 22 I was managing a team of 4, by 23 I was overseeing people operations for 70 employees, and at my last company, Yext, I was responsible for the people experience across 2,000+ team members. I devoured everything I could find on HR best practices, people operations, and organizational development. Books, blogs, articles, podcasts, whatever I could get my hands on. There were occasionally some good insights, but what became overwhelmingly obvious were 2 things.

Two Critical Lessons About HR Advice

First, no one had all the answers. Every company culture is unique and the workplaces of the future will not be carbon copies of the past.

But the second lesson was more important. If someone was out of the people game for a while, they had no idea what they were talking about. The employee experience is evolving too quickly, how could they? If you never managed remote teams through Slack, conducted virtual onboarding via Zoom, or used AI-powered performance tools, how relevant will your advice be for today’s distributed workforce?

The AI Revolution Changes HR

The same thing is happening right now with AI in people operations. OpenAI’s ChatGPT for candidate screening, AI-powered performance review tools, automated employee sentiment analysis, intelligent onboarding workflows, predictive retention models, and AI-driven compensation benchmarking.

Every one of these HR applications has emerged within the past 26 months. An HR leader who hasn’t experimented with AI for talent acquisition, employee engagement, or performance management has no concept of how to optimize the modern employee experience. That’s why the best insights come from HR leaders who are in the trenches today, testing, failing, and figuring out how to harness these tools while keeping their people engaged and productive.

Learning from HR Leaders in the Arena

So during a shift like this, how do you get quality people operations advice? It’s simple. The quality advice comes from HR leaders who are currently building and scaling teams.

You want to hear from people who are in the arena. The people who are actively embracing new HR technologies, navigating remote work challenges, reimagining employee onboarding, tackling retention issues, and building inclusive cultures from scratch. Those are the people to learn from.

What to Expect from One Size Fits None

What we’ll be doing on “One Size Fits None” is learning about what works from incredible HR leaders who are currently in the arena. CHROs, VP of People, Head of Talent, and People Operations leaders from companies at every stage.

Every episode you’ll be hearing from someone responsible for the people experience at their organization. We’ll dive into their unique approach to culture building, talent management, and employee engagement. Don’t expect a playbook with all the answers. Expect practical insights to either help you better support your people, or if you aspire to HR leadership, to set you on the right path when the opportunity comes.

One Size Fits None, but together we can all be better people leaders. The future of work is bright.
